How Anthropic perps work

Anthropic is a private company. It has no listed shares and no share price, and yet ANTHROPIC trades around the clock on three perpetual futures venues with a mark, a funding rate and a leverage cap like any other perp. This guide explains what that contract actually tracks, how a number gets attached to a company nobody can buy on an exchange, and what is different about holding it compared with a BTC or Tesla perp.

What the ticker tracks

An Anthropic perp is a cash-settled derivative on the implied valuation of the company: what the market, through the perp itself, thinks the whole business is worth. It is quoted in valuation points, and one point stands for one billion dollars. A mark of 1,000 reads as an implied valuation of one trillion dollars; a move from 1,000 to 1,010 is the market adding ten billion dollars to that opinion. The contract has no expiry, pays out in USDC on the movement of that mark, and gives its holder no shares, no information rights, no vote and no claim on the company if it ever lists.

  • Underlying: implied company valuation, not a share price
  • Unit: one point is one billion dollars of implied valuation
  • Settlement: USDC, continuously through funding and on close
  • Ownership: none, the position is a contract between traders

How a private company gets a price at all

A listed share is priced by an exchange all day; an oracle reads that print and the perp marks against it. A private company has no print, so the venue that lists the perp has to construct a reference instead. On Hyperliquid, where ANTHROPIC trades as io:ANTH on the EntropyIO dex, the deployer of the market acts as its oracle. Lighter and AsterDex each run their own reference for their own book. In every case the anchor is the last priced funding round, adjusted by whatever secondary marks, tender prices and news the venue chooses to weigh, and the perp trades around that anchor rather than against a live share price.

Why the price can sit far from the last round

On a BTC perp, a gap between the perp and spot is closed in minutes: arbitrageurs buy one and sell the other. On an Anthropic perp there is no spot to arbitrage against. Nobody can buy or short the actual shares to bring the contract back in line, so a premium or a discount to the last priced round can persist for weeks or months. The perp is a market in opinions about the valuation, and it settles against itself. That is not a flaw so much as the whole product, but it means the mark is telling you what leveraged traders believe, not what the company last sold shares at.

Funding on a pre-IPO perp

Funding works mechanically as on any perp: when the contract trades above the venue reference, longs pay shorts, and below it shorts pay longs, at a rate charged on notional over the venue period. The difference is what it pulls toward. On BTC the reference is an index of real spot prices. On Anthropic it is the venue's constructed reference, so funding anchors the perp to an opinion about the valuation rather than to a price anyone can transact at. It still matters to your position in the ordinary way: sustained positive funding is a real cost to a long that has nothing to do with whether the company is doing well.

Hours, leverage and size

There is no underlying session, so ANTHROPIC never closes: weekends, holidays and 3 a.m. are all trading hours, and so are all liquidation hours. Leverage is low by crypto standards. On Hyperliquid the io markets are isolated-margin only with a 6x cap as of September 2026; Lighter and AsterDex set their own caps, shown on the ticket. Size is in points, so the dollar notional of one contract is the mark itself, and margin is that notional divided by the leverage you pick. A market whose reference is a valuation opinion can reprice in one print on a funding-round headline, which is the argument for treating the cap as information rather than as a target.

  • Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • Hyperliquid io:ANTH: isolated margin only, 6x maximum
  • Notional of one contract in dollars equals the mark in points

Three books, three marks

ANTHROPIC trades on Hyperliquid, Lighter and AsterDex, and the three marks are rarely identical. Each venue has its own reference, its own participants and its own funding, so the same name can be ten or twenty points apart across books at the same moment. That spread is the practical case for choosing the venue per order: a trader who can see all three marks and all three funding rates can pick the book that is cheapest to hold on the side they want, and a trader who can only see one cannot.

The risks that do not exist on BTC

Everything that applies to a leveraged perp applies here. Then there is a second list. The reference is a construction, so a change in how the venue builds it moves your mark without any news about the company. A real price can appear at any time, in a new round, a tender or an IPO filing, and the premium the perp was carrying can collapse in a session. Markets can be delisted or relaunched at the deployer's discretion. Depth is a small fraction of a major crypto book, so size moves the price. And if Anthropic does list, holding the perp through the listing gives you no shares; how the venue transitions or settles the contract is its policy, not yours.

  • Oracle and methodology risk: the reference is chosen, not observed
  • Repricing risk when a real transaction prints
  • Listing and delisting risk at the venue or deployer level
  • Thin depth relative to the headline valuation

A worked position

Suppose ANTHROPIC marks at 1,000 points and you buy two contracts at 4x. Notional is two thousand dollars, so the venue asks for five hundred dollars of margin. A ten-point move is one percent of notional, twenty dollars on the position and four percent of your margin. A hundred-point repricing on a headline, which is ten percent, is two hundred dollars, or forty percent of margin in one print with no session close to react in. At the 6x cap the same move would have taken sixty percent of margin. Whatever cap a venue offers, the size of a plausible repricing is the constraint that should set your leverage.

How it works in Hypertradeworx

The Pre-IPO tab in the markets list shows ANTHROPIC with every venue that carries it, each with its own mark, funding and leverage cap, next to the same name on the other two books. The ticket is the one used for every other market: pick the venue, the side, the size in points and the leverage, then sign from your own wallet. Our fee is 0.05% of notional on venues that support an integrator fee, on top of the venue's own. New to it, the app starts you with a $1,000 paper balance on the same screens, so the first Anthropic order can be one that cannot lose money.

Straight answers

Frequently asked questions

Is an Anthropic perp the same as buying Anthropic stock?
No. There is no Anthropic stock to buy; the company is private. The perp is a derivative on an implied valuation. It gives long or short exposure to that number and nothing else: no shares, no rights, and no claim if the company lists.
What does the ANTHROPIC price mean?
Billions of dollars of implied company valuation. One point is one billion dollars, so a mark of 1,000 is the market saying one trillion. It is what leveraged traders on that venue believe, not a price the company has transacted at.
Why is the price different on Hyperliquid, Lighter and AsterDex?
Each venue builds its own reference and has its own participants and funding, and there is no spot market to arbitrage the three together. The gap is normal for this instrument and is why comparing the marks before choosing a book is worth doing.
Does ANTHROPIC trade at the weekend?
Yes. There is no underlying exchange session to close, so the market runs around the clock and positions can be opened, funded and liquidated at any hour.
What happens if Anthropic goes public while I hold the perp?
It depends on the venue. Some keep the market open and switch the reference to the listed share price; others may settle and delist. The mark can move a long way the day a real price prints, so read the venue's policy before holding through a listing.
How much leverage can I use on Anthropic?
On Hyperliquid, 6x with isolated margin only as of September 2026. Lighter and AsterDex set their own caps and the app shows the one that applies before you sign. All three are low by crypto standards, on purpose.
